San Marzano di San Giuseppe è stato quasi sempre di proprietà di famiglie albanesi che hanno cercato di preservare la memoria degli antenati. Oggi il paese è l'unico tra i 14 paesi fondati o rifondati da albanesi [, Carosino, Civitella , Faggiano, Fragagnano, Monteiasi, Montemesola, Monteparano, Roccaforzata, San Crispieri , San Giorgio Ionico, San Martino e Santuario Santa Maria della Camera ] nell'Albania Tarantina che oltre alla lingua albanese pre-ottomana hanno conservato alcuni usi e costumi del paese di origine.
