Polesella è un comune italiano di 3 611 abitanti della provincia di Rovigo in Veneto, situato a sud del capoluogo.
Esisteva sicuramente in zona un abitato in epoca romana, documentato dal ritrovamento di resti di tegole tombali.
Si ritiene verosimile la presenza di frequentazioni precedenti in quanto le prime bonifiche in Polesine avvennero in epoca etrusca con lo scavo dei primi scoli, all'epoca chiamate fosse.
Gli sforzi etruschi e romani per strappare la terra alle paludi furono vanificati dalla Rotta della Cucca del 589 che riportò allo stato paludoso tutto il Polesine e le valli della bassa veronese.
