Mompeo sorge a 457 metri di altitudine sul livello del mare, sulle propaggini meridionali dei monti Sabini.
Il territorio di Mompeo era in antichità abitato certamente dai Sabini, collegati con la città di Curi , che doveva sorgere nei pressi di Corese Terra. Poi attraverso varie vicende i Sabini si fusero coi Romani formando un unico popolo.
