Casalmaggiore si trova nell'estremità sud orientale della provincia di Cremona, al confine con le province di Mantova e Parma.
Accanto alla città da sempre il Po, uno dei suoi simboli e fedeli compagni, ma anche terribile avversario nelle piene del 1951, 1994 e 2000.
Il centro abitato, in prossimità di Vicobellignano è attraversato dal 45º parallelo nord, la linea equidistante fra il Polo nord e l'Equatore.
