Avola è un comune italiano di 30 217 abitanti del libero consorzio comunale di Siracusa in Sicilia.
Secondo taluni, l'origine della città risale a Hybla Major sita in prossimità della costa sud-orientale della Sicilia. La zona, abitata precedentemente dai Sicani, fu invasa dai Siculi e divenne teatro di lotte per il predominio sulla regione.
