L'aeroporto di Catania-Fontanarossa "Vincenzo Bellini" è il Primo aeroporto italiano Primo in Italia per traffico nazionale. Inoltre, la tratta Catania-Roma è la più trafficata a livello nazionale e la quarta in Europa.
Il 5 maggio 2007, alla presenza dell'allora Ministro dei Trasporti Alessandro Bianchi, è stata inaugurata la nuova aerostazione intitolata a Vincenzo Bellini, nella quale accogliere, con elevati parametri di qualità di servizio, l'incremento del traffico aereo previsto per lo scalo etneo. Il vecchio molo aeroportuale "Filippo Eredia" è rimasto in funzione fino alla sera del 7 maggio 2007, in concomitanza con l'apertura al pubblico del nuovo terminal denominato Terminal A. Inoltre, il 14 luglio 2018 è stato aperto al pubblico anche il nuovo Terminal C riservato ai voli EasyJet verso destinazioni in area Schengen.
