Il Lapis niger è un sito archeologico collocato nell'area del Foro Romano a Roma, sul luogo dei comizi a poca distanza dalla Curia Iulia.
Il suo nome deriva dal fatto che anticamente era stato coperto da lastre di marmo "nero", con risvolti sinistri legati a leggende circa la tomba profanata di Romolo o di qualche altro oscuro personaggio della più antica storia romana. Durante degli scavi condotti alla fine del XIX secolo vi venne rinvenuto un altare con un cippo che presentava un'iscrizione con una delle più antiche testimonianze scritte della lingua latina, la prima ad uso pubblico, e databile intorno al 575-550 a.C.
