Il Lange Voorhout, così chiamato perché era un prolungamento (foresta davanti o legno davanti) del bosco dell'Aia, ha gradualmente assunto la sua caratteristica forma a L.
I primi edifici lungo il Lange Voorhout apparvero all'inizio del XV secolo. Risale a quel periodo l'attuale Chiesa del Monastero, uno dei pochi resti del monastero allora costruito.
Nell'Oro del Secolo, il Voorhout è diventato il punto d'incontro dell'alta società dell'Aia, si passeggiava. Su proposta del principe Maurits si tentò di creare un fossato dal Lange Voorhout. Questo fallì perché il Lange Voorhout si trova parzialmente su una collina di sabbia.
