Il Haagse Bos è una foresta di circa 100 ha e fa parte della grande foresta primordiale, che un tempo si estendeva da ''s-Gravenzande fino oltre Alkmaar. La foresta si trova su una vecchia duna e termina dove inizia il torbido.
Non si sa molto della storia più antica se non che la foresta è sempre esistita ed è stata la ragione per cui i Conti di Olanda vi costruirono un castello di caccia nel XIII secolo: il successivo Binnenhof.
Nel corso dei secoli, fino ad oggi, il bosco è stato utilizzato come luogo di incontro per contatti carnali, senza fare distinzione tra "naturali e sodomistici".
