The Hague Forest is a forest of approximately 100 hectares and is part of the large primeval forest that used to stretch from 's-Gravenzande to beyond Alkmaar. The forest is situated on an old beach ridge and ends where the peat begins.
Nothing more is known about the ancient history than that the forest has always existed and was a reason for the Counts of Holland to build a hunting lodge there in the 13th century: the later Binnenhof.
Throughout the centuries, up to the present day, the forest has been used as a meeting place for physical contacts, making no distinction between "natural and sodomitical".
