Nelle grotte di calcare della Sint-Pietersberg, La Rondine di Rembrandt fu nascosta durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Era già stata nascosta in altri luoghi come nelle dune di Castricum e nel castello di Radboud a Medemblik. Nell'aprile del 1942, La Rondine fu trasferita dalla cassetta di stato di Heemskerk nelle dune di Castricum alle grotte di calcare. Il 25 giugno 1945 il dipinto tornò ad Amsterdam via nave interna.
