William e Anna Singer, una coppia americana, nel 1911 commissionano all'architetto J.W. Hanrath la costruzione di una villa. Nell'autunno del 1912 si trasferiscono nella loro bellissima casa, 'I cigni selvatici'. Qui accoglieranno molti artisti amici da tutto il mondo. Dopo la morte di William Singer, Anna commissiona a Wouter Hamdorff la costruzione di un museo in memoria del marito, per poter ospitare la loro collezione d'arte. Il nuovo complesso Singer è stato inaugurato nel 1956.
