William and Anna Singer, an American couple, commissioned architect J.W. Hanrath in 1911 to build a villa. In the autumn of 1912, they moved into their particularly beautiful residence, 'The Wild Swans'. They would welcome many friend artists from around the world here. After the death of William Singer, Anna commissioned Wouter Hamdorff to build a museum in memory of her husband, to house their art collection. The new Singer complex was opened in 1956.
