Il nome Bladel si trova tra l'altro come Bladele, Pladella e Bladella, ma dal 1280 la scrittura è: Bladel. Il suffisso -el deriva da lo o lauha che significa bosco. Il significato del prefisso Blad- è sconosciuto, ma potrebbe riferirsi a un nome proprio. Il prefisso "Blad" potrebbe anche derivare da bladra che significa gonfiore, elevazione di un luogo. Il nome Pladella per una villa nella seconda metà del XIII secolo potrebbe anche indicare una abitazione su un'elevazione nel paesaggio.
