Si trova a sud-ovest di IJlst e Sneek, a nord-ovest di Heeg, a nord di Gaastmeer e a nord-est di Sandfirden. Il centro del paese si affaccia sul lago Oudegaasterbrekken, dove si trovano diversi porti e ci sono due grandi campeggi. Il villaggio attira anche molti appassionati di sport acquatici, in particolare per le possibilità di vela e windsurf. Nel 2021 il paese contava 735 abitanti. Fa parte del villaggio anche la frazione De Band.
