Se encuentra al suroeste de IJlst y Sneek, al noroeste de Heeg, al norte de Gaastmeer y al noreste de Sandfirden. El núcleo del pueblo está junto al lago Oudegaasterbrekken, que cuenta con varios puertos y tiene dos grandes campings. La ubicación del pueblo también atrae a muchos aficionados a los deportes acuáticos, entre ellos por las posibilidades de navegar a vela y hacer windsurf. En 2021, el pueblo contaba con 735 habitantes. El pueblo también incluye la aldea De Band.
