Merwede è il nome del tratto finale del Waal. Il Merwedebrug è un ponte stradale fisso sopra il Boven-Merwede tra Gorinchem e Sleeuwijk. È un doppio ponte ad arco unico nei Paesi Bassi. Il ponte è noto per le notizie sul traffico come "Merwedebrug" o "Ponte di Gorinchem". Le principali cause del traffico intenso sono la carreggiata sinistra larga solo 2 metri sul ponte (di solito è larga 3,5 metri) e l'incontro della A15 e della A27 presso il raccordo di Gorinchem, poco prima del ponte.
