Merwede est le nom du cours inférieur de la Waal. Le Merwedebrug est un pont routier fixe sur la Boven-Merwede entre Gorinchem et Sleeuwijk. C'est un pont à double arc unique aux Pays-Bas. Le pont est connu pour les informations sur les embouteillages sous le nom de "Merwedebrug" ou "Pont de Gorinchem". Les principales causes des embouteillages sont la bande de circulation de seulement 2 mètres de large sur le pont (normalement 3,5 mètres) et la confluence de l'A15 et de l'A27 au niveau du noeud de Gorinchem, juste avant le pont.
