Acquoy è un villaggio nella provincia olandese di Gelderland. Fa parte del comune di West Betuwe e si trova a circa 12 km a est di Gorinchem. Secondo una leggenda popolare, un "Jan van Arkel" fu il primo a insediarsi nel villaggio di Acquoy, quando tornò dalle crociate nel 1133. Tuttavia, ciò è altamente improbabile, poiché non ci furono crociate nel periodo intorno al 1133. La prima crociata fu dal 1096 al 1099 e la seconda dal 1147 al 1149. Alcune fonti riportano che il Jan van Arkel menzionato fosse in realtà Jan I van Arkel. Tuttavia, visse un secolo dopo e aveva il soprannome di "de Sterke", che significa "il forte".
