Acquoy ist ein Dorf in der niederländischen Provinz Gelderland. Es ist Teil der Gemeinde West Betuwe und liegt etwa 12 km östlich von Gorinchem. Laut populärer Legende war ein "Jan van Arkel" der erste, der das Dorf Acquoy besiedelte, als er 1133 von den Kreuzzügen zurückkehrte. Dies ist jedoch höchst unwahrscheinlich, da es in der Zeit um 1133 keine Kreuzzüge gab. Der erste Kreuzzug war von 1096 bis 1099 und der zweite von 1147 bis 1149. Einige Quellen berichten, dass der erwähnte Jan van Arkel tatsächlich Jan I van Arkel war. Er lebte jedoch ein Jahrhundert später und hatte den Spitznamen "de Sterke", was "der Starke" bedeutet.
