Meteren è un villaggio nel comune di West Betuwe nella provincia olandese di Gelderland. Al 1 gennaio 2021, il villaggio contava 4.750 abitanti. Meteren è stato citato per la prima volta in un documento nel 1265 come "Curtis de Meteren". È noto anche che nel 1267 apparteneva a Malsen, così come il villaggio di Geldermalsen veniva chiamato allora. La storia del comune è strettamente legata alla nobile famiglia Van Cuyck di Meteren, che possedeva la signoria di Meteren circa dal 1450 al 1694. Originariamente, la famiglia proviene dalla Betuwe, la cosiddetta contea di Teisterbant, dove aveva beni nei pressi di Geldermalsen e Meteren. Teisterbant fu suddiviso nel XIII secolo tra Cuijk, Gelre e il capitolo di Utrecht.
