Meteren es un pueblo en el municipio de West Betuwe en la provincia de Gelderland, Países Bajos. A partir del 1 de enero de 2021, la aldea contaba con 4.750 habitantes. Meteren fue mencionado por primera vez en un documento en 1265 como "Curtis de Meteren". También se sabe que en 1267 pertenecía a Malsen, como se denominaba entonces el pueblo de Geldermalsen. La historia del municipio está estrechamente vinculada a la nobleza de los Van Cuyck de Meteren, que poseía la Señoría de Meteren desde aproximadamente 1450 hasta 1694. Originalmente, la familia provenía de Betuwe, el llamado condado de Teisterbant, donde tenía propiedades cerca de Geldermalsen y Meteren. Teisterbant fue dividido en el siglo XIII entre Cuijk, Gelre y el obispado de Utrecht.
