Gaanderen è un villaggio nel comune di Doetinchem, situato nella provincia olandese di Gelderland. Il villaggio confina con Terborg e Gaanderen ha 5.575 abitanti. Gaanderen è nato nel dodicesimo secolo. All'epoca, il villaggio era chiamato Gernere, in riferimento alle dune che proteggevano la terra contro il fiume Oude IJssel. Gernere sarebbe derivato dalle parole gér e laar, che significano "catena di colline appuntite". Nel diciassettesimo secolo, il luogo, che allora contava circa 120 abitanti e 20 fattorie, divenne uno dei cinque quartieri di Doetinchem. L'area fu chiamata 'Gander'.
