La prima menzione di Boskoop risale al 1222. All'inizio di quell'anno, Guglielmo I, il quattordicesimo conte di Olanda, redige un atto con cui dona 100 sterline all'abbadessa dell'Abbazia di Rijnsburg. L'abbadessa utilizzerà questa somma per estinguere un debito con Gijsbrecht van Amstel e la sua famiglia. In questo modo, l'abbazia entra in possesso 'per sempre' dei beni del conte a Buckeskop. Si ritiene comunemente che con questo nome si faccia riferimento a bonifiche paludose - chiamate cope - a Boskoop. Il nome 'Bucke' appartiene probabilmente a un titolare di una cope originario della Frisia. Dal testo dell'atto si può dedurre che il possesso del conte a Boskoop ha già un tale volume da poter fungere da garanzia. L'anno esatto della nascita di Boskoop non è noto, ma potrebbe essere attorno al 1210. Nel 1233, l'abbadessa estingue il debito con i Van Amstel e ottiene il diritto di governare l'ufficio di Boskoop.
