Il Bloesempark è nato dopo una donazione di 400 ciliegi ad Amstelveen da parte del Japan Women's Club nel 2000. Ogni albero ha un nome: 200 alberi hanno un nome giapponese, i restanti 200 un nome olandese. Il parco è diventato nel frattempo un luogo amato dalla comunità giapponese. Ogni anno, quando i ciliegi sono in fiore, si svolge la festa 'Hanami Matsuri' per celebrare l'inizio della primavera e i visitatori fanno picnic sotto gli alberi. Il comune di Amstelveen organizza quindi il Cherry Blossom Festival, con molte personalità illustri.
