Le Nieuwkoopse Plassen è un'area naturale di 1400 ettari situata nella provincia dell'Olanda Meridionale, vicino ai paesi di Nieuwkoop, Noorden e De Meije. Di questa, oltre 1000 ettari sono di proprietà dell'Associazione per i Monumenti Naturali. Le paludi si sono formate dal 16° secolo a causa dell'estrazione di torba nell'area.
A breve distanza dalla via principale del villaggio di Nieuwkoop, che delimita la zona delle paludi a nord-ovest ed è attraente per i turisti grazie alle tipiche case dei minatori di torba, si trovano due paludi molto estese e piuttosto poco profonde, la Noordeinderplas e la Zuideinderplas. Dal villaggio di De Meije, vicino alla torre dell'acqua Het Potlood, a Nieuwkoop si snoda una pista ciclabile, il Meijepad, che attraversa la Zuideinderplas, con un ponte di legno (kwakel) nel mezzo per consentire il transito delle imbarcazioni da una parte all'altra della palude.
