Qui a 'Het werk aan de Daatselaar' si incontrano due importanti dighe della Grebbelinie, la Slaperdijk da sud e la Groeperkade da ovest. Entrambe le dighe servivano a contenere l'acqua in una 'conca' e, se necessario, così, in caso di nemico in avvicinamento, inondare il terreno con l'ausilio di un chiusino. Con la costruzione di un forte nel 1799, questo luogo strategico poté essere difeso. L'acqua intorno al forte proveniva dal Lunterse Beek.
Era un grande forte con un cosiddetto 'terrein', dove le truppe potevano accamparsi.
Anche nei giorni di maggio del 1940 la Grebbelinie giocò un ruolo importante. Tuttavia, ciò non valeva per il Forte Daatselaar, che era troppo avanzato in direzione est.
Nel 2007, Staatsbosbeheer ha iniziato il restauro del forte, completato nel 2013.
