Il canale nella Schijf.
Una via d'acqua per il trasporto di torba che partiva dalle aree paludose verso il porto di esportazione, a volte presentava un grande dislivello. Senza artifici, la via d'acqua si sarebbe svuotata. Infatti, i canali non erano pieni d'acqua tutto l'anno. Per avere comunque abbastanza acqua al momento del trasporto di torba, fu realizzato un ingegnoso sistema di chiuse, paratoie e serbatoi d'acqua. E qui c'era una di queste chiuse.
