De spui in Schijf.
Een turfvaart die van de veengebieden naar de uitvoerhaven liep, had soms een groot verval. Zonder kunstgrepen zou de vaart dan ook leeglopen. Vaarten stonden dan ook niet het hele jaar door vol met water. Om toch over voldoende water te beschikken op het moment van turftransport was een ingenieus systeem van sluisjes, stuwtjes en waterreservoirs ingericht. En hier was zo'n sluisje.
