Il castello di Obbicht sorge sul luogo di una fortezza medievale, distrutta all'inizio della guerra degli ottant'anni dagli occupanti spagnoli. Il castello fu ricostruito, ma andò nuovamente perduto all'inizio del XVIII secolo a causa della violenza bellica. I resti furono sostituiti nel 1780 dall'attuale castello.
Nel 1954 anche il nuovo castello andò in fiamme, ma grazie a un riuscito restauro tra il 1975 e il 1988 risorse in tutto il suo splendore. Nel frattempo, l'edificio, così come la fattoria del castello adiacente, è sulla lista dei monumenti nazionali. I fossati intorno al castello sono alimentati da acqua del Kingbeek. Lungo questo ruscello sorgeva un mulino per carta (1699), la casa natale del noto scrittore Pieter Ecrevisse.
