La storia di Austerlitz risale al 1804, quando Auguste de Marmont, generale di Napoleone Bonaparte, fece radunare qui metà delle sue truppe - 18.000 uomini. Dopo che Napoleone vinse la battaglia di Austerlitz, nella attuale Repubblica Ceca, il 2 dicembre 1805, suo fratello Luigi Napoleone Bonaparte - che un anno dopo sarebbe diventato Re d'Olanda - decise di dare al villaggio il nome di Austerlitz.
