Dal 1980 al 1985, la diga settentrionale del mare è stata elevata all'altezza del delta dalla autorità idrica Ommelanderzeedijk, rendendo necessario sostituire il vecchio slu di 1811 con una nuova pompa di drenaggio. Il vecchio slu, murato, è diventato nel 1986 parte di un progetto di land art, un mosaico di pietre, progettato da J.H. van Loon. Quest'opera d'arte è già visibile da lontano.
