La locanda risale presumibilmente al 1653. Degli ancore dell'anno sulla facciata è presente solo il '3'. È di gran lunga la locanda più antica nei dintorni. All'interno, un magnifico ampio camino antico domina tutta la sala da pranzo. Davanti alla locanda c'è una placca con una poesia che suggerisce che le chiatte cariche di torba, destinate ai caldaie dei birrifici, qui ancorassero e che così la locanda prenda il suo nome. Un'altra spiegazione è che il nome derivi dal birrificio Het Ancker a Breda, poiché il proprietario del birrificio, Peter van Bernagien, fece costruire la locanda.
