Itteren, in limburghese Ittere, era un'ex comune olandese che nel 1970 fu fusa con il comune di Maastricht.
Gli archeologi hanno scoperto undici siti archeologici nella regione. I resti più antichi risalgono all'età della pietra, circa 7000-4000 anni fa. Sono stati trovati anche braccialetti in vetro risalenti all'età del ferro. Intorno ai III e II secoli a.C. si trovava nella regione una villa romana. Resti di essa sono stati scoperti nel 1995 e 1999 sulla Pasestraat a nord di Borgharen, al confine con Itteren. Nello stesso luogo si trovava il cimitero nei VI e VII secoli. Presso l'imboccatura della Gueule, sono stati trovati frammenti di urne e di cremazioni.
