La torre di trasmissione di Smilde è un torre ibrida alta 303,5 metri, utilizzata per la radiodiffusione olandese per FM e TV, completata nel 1958 nei pressi di Smilde. La torre di trasmissione di Smilde è stata messa in funzione nel 1959 ed è stata la struttura più alta del nord dei Paesi Bassi. Il 14 agosto 1968 è stata sfiorata da un aereo da combattimento americano di tipo North American F-100, piegando gravemente la sommità del palo dell'antenna.
