Il Plateau di Caestert sul Maas rappresenta un elemento paesaggistico notevole nella regione. Deve aver colpito anche i Romani, poiché nel periodo 58-51 a.C. probabilmente vennero a stabilirsi qui. Si dice che qui sia stato allestito un accampamento invernale di un legione e mezzo, tra 7000 e 8000 uomini. Nel 54 a.C. Mentre i soldati stanno raccogliendo legna, probabilmente qui su questo plateau, la popolazione locale li attacca. L'uomo che stava dietro a tutto ciò era il Celtico Amborix. Amborix racconta ai Romani che è in arrivo un grande attacco per colpire tutti gli accampamenti invernali, e li esorta a partire. Ma questo è un inganno inteso a catturare i Romani. E ciò accadrebbe nella vicina valle di Jeker.
Fu infatti Giulio Cesare stesso a descrivere questa storia in "Commentarii de bello gallico".
