La cappella fu costruita sulla cima della collina di Santa Margarida dall'allora arcivescovo di Braga, Rodrigo de Moura Teles, che la benedisse il 23 marzo 1725.
Durante il periodo dell'arcivescovo Gaspar de Bragança, l'architetto Carlos Amarante progettò un'importante ristrutturazione della cappella, che non fu mai realizzata.
La cappella, dedicata alla Madonna di Guadalupe, è situata in un parco recintato e protetto da un muro.
Ha una pianta circolare, con ingresso attraverso un vestibolo a tre archi. Sopra l'arco principale si trova una nicchia con un'immagine della Madonna di Guadalupe e l'iscrizione epigrafica "Protegam vrbem istam 1747".
