La capilla fue construida en lo alto de la colina de Santa Margarida por el entonces arzobispo de Braga, Rodrigo de Moura Teles, quien la bendijo el 23 de marzo de 1725.
Durante la época del arzobispo Gaspar de Bragança, el arquitecto Carlos Amarante diseñó una importante reforma de la capilla, que nunca se realizó.
La capilla, dedicada a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, está ubicada en un parque cercado y protegido por un muro.
Tiene planta circular, con entrada a través de un vestíbulo de tres arcos. Sobre el arco principal hay una hornacina con una imagen de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y la inscripción epigráfica "Protegam vrbem istam 1747".
