Die Kapelle wurde auf dem Hügel Santa Margarita vom damaligen Erzbischof von Braga, Rodrigo de Moura Teles, erbaut, der sie am 23. März 1725 segnete.
Während der Amtszeit von Erzbischof Gaspar de Braganza plante der Architekt Carlos Amarante eine umfassende Renovierung der Kapelle, die jedoch nie durchgeführt wurde .
Die der Jungfrau von Guadalupe geweihte Kapelle befindet sich in einem geschlossenen, durch eine Mauer geschützten Park.
Es hat einen kreisförmigen Grundriss und der Eingang führt durch eine Vorhalle mit drei Bögen. Über dem Hauptbogen befindet sich eine Nische mit einem Bild Unserer Lieben Frau von Guadalupe und der epigraphischen Inschrift „Protegam vrbem istam 1747“.
