La costruzione iniziò nel 1559, dopo che l'assemblea della confraternita decise di edificare la chiesa.
L' orologio e il campanile dovevano essere costruiti come quelli della Misericórdia do Porto e il pulpito come quello della chiesa di Santo Eloy nella stessa città. La facciata è semplice e sobria, tipica del Rinascimento filippino . L'enfasi è sul portale, dove quattro colonne sostengono un frontone dritto sormontato dalle immagini di Nostra Signora della Concezione e della Visitazione.
L'interno è caratterizzato da pareti piastrellate, pale d'altare e soffitti ricoperti da cassettoni lignei.
La croce di fronte alla chiesa fu costruita nel 1713 dal maestro Domingos Moreira, di Moreira da Maia. Questa delicata opera in pietra , con ricche decorazioni su ciascuno degli elementi che compongono la croce, ha caratteristiche barocche.
