Il Rockefeller Center è un gruppo di 19 edifici commerciali di New York, sito in Manhattan, che si affaccia sulla Fifth Avenue a pochi passi da Central Park in direzione sud. Costruito dalla famiglia di banchieri statunitensi Rockefeller, è uno dei più grandi complessi privati del suo genere al mondo.
Sul finire degli anni venti il magnate petrolifero John D. Rockefeller, Jr. cominciò a coltivare l'idea di costruire un nuovo complesso di edifici nella zona di Midtown, a New York. Il terreno su cui sarebbe sorto il complesso era di proprietà della Columbia University, con la quale Rockefeller stipulò nel 1928 un contratto di utilizzo della durata complessiva di 87 anni.
