Il National Reconnaissance Office è il dipartimento appartenente al Dipartimento della Difesa degli Stati Uniti d'America che costruisce e gestisce i satelliti spia. Il dipartimento è stato creato nel 1960 e la sua sede principale si trova a Chantilly, Virginia. L'NRO inoltre coordina le gestione e l'analisi delle informazioni ricevute dagli aeroplani e satelliti spia militari e di proprietà della Central Intelligence Agency. L'NRO gestisce il National Reconnaissance Program, parte del National Foreign Intelligence Program.
L'NRO collabora con programmi privati con molti soggetti pubblici legati al mondo dell'intelligence e dello spazio come la National Security Agency , la National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency , la Central Intelligence Agency , la Defense Intelligence Agency , e l'United States Strategic Command.
