La battaglia di Fort Sumter si svolse dal 12 al 13 aprile 1861 nei pressi del porto di Charleston : truppe degli Stati Confederati d'America posero il blocco e bombardarono la piazzaforte di Fort Sumter, ancora presidiata da soldati dell'Unione, fino a ottenerne la resa.
L'episodio, benché relativamente incruento, funse da casus belli della successiva guerra di secessione americana.
