Appomattox Court House è un villaggio storico situato 5 km a Est di Appomattox, Virginia , famoso per essere stato il luogo della battaglia di Appomattox Court House e per la casa di Wilmer McLean, in cui avvenne il 9 aprile 1865 la resa delle forze armate della Confederazione, guidate dal gen. Robert E. Lee, alle forze armate unioniste guidate dal gen. Ulysses S. Grant, che mise fine alla Guerra di secessione. Il sito è attualmente ricordato come Appomattox Courthouse National Historical Park, un Parco Nazionale Storico statunitense.
Molte città delle Virginia sono sedi di contee al cui nome segue l'espressione "court house". La "court house" cittadina contempla la necessità di un cortile su cui s'affaccino altre costruzioni. Nella fattispecie una di queste costruzioni è la casa di McLean, che precedentemente era stata una taverna.
