Het renaissance-kasteel dateert uit de 17de eeuw en is een voorbeeld van hoe een 16de eeuwse omgrachte herenwoning uitgroeide tot een 17de eeuws U-vormig waterkasteel met drie hoektorens opgetrokken in Maaslandse stijl. Het kasteel werd grondig omgebouwd in de 18de eeuw volgens de toen nieuwe woon- en stijlopvattingen. Zo krijgt het interieur een klassiek statiekarakter. Het kasteel behoorde aan de Graven van Rijkel toe. Sinds 1965 is het eigendom van de Provincie Limburg. Opmerkelijk is ook de museumboomgaard van het kasteel met allerlei oude fruitsoorten.

Enkel toegankelijk tijdens de dag van de Kers (2de weekend van juli)
