In de bomen kan je (zeker in de winter) goed de vogellijm of maretak-bollen zien. Deze parasiet hebben we blijkbaar altijd een misterieuse plant gevonden. Dat kan je afleiden aan de tal van mythologische namen we deze plant gegeven hebben: duivelsgras, duivelsnest, heksennest, kersterhout, lijmkruid, mattekruid, mistel, mistletoe, priemst, raamsch, slangentong, viscus, vogellijm,... Deze plant is gekend als heksenkuid. Een heksenkruid is een plant die volgens overleveringen veelvuldig is gebruikt door zogenaamde heksen en kruidenvrouwen vanwege een bepaalde werking.
