Sint Eustatius is een Nederlands eiland in het Caribisch gebied dat sinds 2010 bestuurlijk als Caribisch openbaar lichaam een bijzondere gemeente vormt. Het is gelegen in het oostelijk deel van de Caribische Zee, behoort tot de SSS-eilanden en geografisch met onder andere Guadeloupe, Saba en Sint Maarten tot de Bovenwindse Eilanden. De hoofdplaats is Oranjestad. Op de oudste kaart waarop het eiland voorkomt heet het Estatia. Later maakte men er Sint Anastatia en Sint Eustatius van. De laatste naamgeving werd blijvend. In het Caribisch gebied wordt het eiland Statia genoemd.
De vroegste bewoners waren Cariben die vermoedelijk uit het bekken van de Amazone kwamen en vanuit Venezuela via de kleine Antillen naar het noorden waren gemigreerd. In het begin van de twintigste eeuw zijn er nederzettingssporen ontdekt in Golden Rock en Oranjebaai.
