Schilder Paul Delvaux woonde in de buurt van het treinstation van Watermael. Vele elementen van dit treinstation komen terug in zijn schilderijen zoals in zijn werk "Avondtrein". Hij maakte nooit volledig exacte reconstructies van bestaande stations maar het zijn compilaties van tal van stations. Dit stationsgebouw van Watermaal ontworpen door architect EJ Robert dateert uit 1884. Klassiek bevatte het ontwerp een lokettenhal samen met een aaneengrenzende privéwoning van de stationschef. Dankzij de renovatie van 1999 kwamen de rode bakstenen met witte strepen terug die je ook op tal van schilderijen herkent. Aan de spoorzijde kwam een overhangende markies met ijzerwerk zoals Delvaux het graag minutieus schilderde. Aan de straatkant werden Delvauxs geliefde zwarte lantaarnpalen geplaatst.
