Painter Paul Delvaux lived near the Watermael train station. Many elements of this train station reappear in his paintings, such as in his work "Evening Train." He never made fully accurate reconstructions of existing stations; instead, they are compilations of numerous stations. This station building in Watermael, designed by architect EJ Robert, dates back to 1884. Typically, the design included a ticket hall along with an adjacent private residence for the stationmaster. Thanks to the renovation in 1999, the red bricks with white stripes, which you also recognize in many paintings, returned. On the railway side, there was a projecting awning with ironwork, which Delvaux liked to paint meticulously. On the street side, Delvaux's beloved black street lamps were installed.
