Ooit lag dit classicistische kasteel, het buiten- en zomerverblijf van de burggraven de Jonghe d' Ardoye, in een 3000 ha groot domein. Het werd toen bewoond door de heer van Ardooie, die zich wat chiquer 'd'Ardoye' liet noemen. De drie vijvers in de omgeving en het park horen tot het grote domein 't Veld. In dit provinciaal domein zijn er enkele prachtige dreven, een bosleerpad, een vijverreservaat en recreatieve voorzieningen zoals een kinderspeeltuin, visvijvers en een cafetaria. Het eigenlijke kasteeldomein werd in 1981 aangekocht door het provinciebestuur van West-Vlaanderen maar het kasteel is sinds kort opnieuw privaat domein (en niet toegankelijk voor publiek).
